memories

The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" couldn't be more true than at Peskin Studio/Michael Angelo Photography.
The studio, located in Fountain 9 Mall at 2153 Route 35 South in Sea Girt, specializes in wedding and portrait photography. With creative portraits, the staff at Peskin Studio can help the bride and groom create the perfect photo package to meet the couple's personal needs.
Owner Michael Angelo said that most couples opt for the traditional color photos, as well as black and white photos known as photojournalism. Angelo described photojournalism as a very contemporary, hands-off approach. Because the style of the black and white photographs doesn't have the individuals posing, Angelo said, "We can capture the spontaneity of the wedding day." With the traditional photos, however, the photographers have control over all elements of the picture, including lighting and background.
Also, because most couples choose a combination package of both traditional and photojournalism photography, "they are easy to distinguish one from the other and offer a nice contrast in the couple's wedding album," Angelo said.
"We spend a lot of time with the couple and pay close attention to detail so we can create a very unique wedding package," he said. For example, the newlyweds can customize their own photograph package after seeing the proofs.
Angelo, who is a member of The Professional Photographer Association of America as well as the New Jersey Chapter, bought the studio in 1987. His passion for photography stems from the time he spent as an apprentice with area photography studios. "I found I really enjoyed photography so I pursued it," he said about why he decided to purchase the studio from the existing owner.
While wedding photography may be the crux of Angelo's business, Peskin Studio also offers clients engagement photos, portrait sessions in the studio, as well as beach portraits generally taken an hour before sunset. Angelo said that he encourages clients to be unique with their portrait sessions. He even suggests that clients bring their own personal props.
In addition to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and Sweet 16 parties, Angelo said he takes photographs of moms-to-be. For example, he said the portraits range from a picture of the expectant mom's belly to older siblings resting their heads on the mom's tummy. As for this style of photography, he said, "It's gaining popularity. I do about one per week now."
Peskin Studio also can restore old and deteriorating photographs. The studio also offers gift certificates in $25, $50 and $100 denominations.
